Here are a couple of images from this past weekend.

:: fallen tree (82k)

:: mossy rock (101k)

Here is a third shot I scanned in going through some old negatives. It’s a generic shot, but I always like to see the light play through the Canyon (who doesn’t?).

:: Grand Canyon (72k)

Last Saturday, I had set out just to do some test macro images, but came away with some usable subjects. The tree photo was taken with a tripod with 100 speed negative film; the mossy rock was taken handheld with 400 speed negative film. With the negative scanner it’s easy to see that 1) the tripod makes a big difference with sharpness (especially at near-life-size magnification); and 2) film grain obtrusive with the 400 speed (probably not for 5×7 prints, but scanned in at 2800+ dpi, it definitely shows up).

Had a great day in the woods today. Hiked a bit up a mountain bike trail at Devil’s Den (ArkansasStateParks.com) and found some interesting subjects. Should have negs developed soon (<$2 a roll for negs only!).

Have taken a month or so off from blogging. Have spent a lot of time refocusing, literally and figuratively. Recently bought some gear that allows me to do more with photography. I am excited about that, especially macro photography. Hope to post some images soon.
