What makes Midwesterners so odd to me is their willingness to strike up a conversation with anyone about the most mundane things. Over the past few days, I’ve tested this out, and had some very odd exchanges with only the tiniest verbal nudge:
Guy in pizza place: “Yah, those Toyotas, they will burn about a quart of oil after aboot 100,000 miles, they will.”
Maintenance guy in hotel: “Yah, those low-flow toilets, they don’t flush good at all, they do. I think they’re going to change the law about those, I hope, I do.”
People in NW Arkansas just seem so uptight compared to here.
