Wierd Weather

Thursday, April 28th, 2005

wierd_weatherTook this from the porch this morning. It doesn’t quite show the awesome 3D concave bowl shape on the right, but it was there, I can tell ya. We’ve had an odd spring with temperatures suddenly dipping into the 30s after things had just warmed up.

Arkansas salon requires thumbprint to get a tan

Thursday, April 28th, 2005

(Boing Boing): Today Breanna went to a tanning place in her hometown of Fayetteville, Arkansas to get a spray tan. The person asked to take an electronic scan of her thumbprint in order for her to be allowed to get her spray tan.

It’s not often (if ever) that Arkansas gets a mention on Boing Boing, but I would have never guessed it’d have been about a topic like this. In the salon’s defense, thumbprints pretty much get around the whole literacy problem.

Macs Are More Expensive, Right?

Friday, April 15th, 2005

I always consider the annoyance factor of dealing with a PC. Macs would be cheaper at 3X the price, even.

(linuxinsider.com): So, bottom line, are PCs cheaper than Macs? No, despite what you read in the PC press, it’s the other way around. Compare Apples to apples, and Macs are cheaper than PCs.

Cooking on the Radio

Thursday, April 14th, 2005

I’ve been enjoying cooking podcasts recently, even though I don’t have much time to cook, usually. It might be interesting for restaurants to offer podcasts about how their takeout meals are prepared. That way, at least you’d have the illusion of a gourmet experience.

(cookingontheradio.com): I know that you have the ability to be a great cook. All it takes is a little work, quality ingredients, and a pinch of creativity and you can enjoy wonderful and healthy restaurant quality food in your own home. You will be the talk of your family and friends each time you host a dinner party, so grab your apron and your iPod because we are going to get cooking. Healthy eating doesn’t need to be bland. I can help you spice up and clean up your eating habits, and change your attitude on cooking, change your health and change your life.

Stortroopers R Us

Wednesday, April 13th, 2005

Jumping on the bandwagon, here is my stortrooper. You can make one, too.

FAQ: “You may use your trooper however you like and adapt it to your taste; however you may not claim copyright (i.e. ownership) on any stortrooper image no matter what you do to it. The Creative Commons license here means that you can modify your trooper if you like, or make the entire cast of Star Wars, or - well you get the drift. All we ask is for a credit back to us, and that you don’t do it for commercial gain. If you make a version, and someone else builds on your version, the license travels with the trooper.”

Generation Y embraces choice, redefines religion

Tuesday, April 12th, 2005

(Washington Times): The big question is how traditional religions will respond to a new generation of Americans who value choice, informality and personal expression . . .

I think an even bigger question is will they? Here’s a link (PDF) to the complete survey.
