Riveting, what?

Mr Angry and Mrs Calm

Tuesday, October 25th, 2005

I didn’t believe this at first, but it’s really freaky. You have to get up out of your chair to get far enough back.

ianrowland.com: If you are near to this picture, Mr Angry is on the left and Mrs Calm is on the right. If you view it from a distance, they switch places!

38

Tuesday, October 25th, 2005

Most of the four of you who read this page have already conveyed Birthday Wishes. Anyways, "Happy Birthday to me . . . " 38 is one of those middling years with no numerical significance. I have always considered that there are certain "age milestones" that stand out:

  • 12: Biblical ‘Age of Accountability;" no longer eligible for "child’s menu."
  • 13: Beginning of teen years
  • 16: Drive a car.
  • 18: You can vote, go to war (but not drink)
  • 21: See above. You can buy beer!
  • 33: Age of Christ at crucifixion
  • 38: Putter aimlessly on blog. Re-evaluate NFL career.
  • 40: Get depressing birthday cards. Buy Corvette.
  • 55: AARP discount!
  • 60: Actually use AARP discount
  • 65: Traditional retirement age (fat chance!)
  • 70: Septuagenarianism

So there you have it. I’m looking forward to my Corvette.

For Better or For Worse

Friday, October 21st, 2005

My favorite comic strip of all time, "For Better or for Worse," can be found at its new home, FBorFW.com. I’ll never forgive our statewide paper for dropping the strip (and if you ask me why I won’t subscribe, that’s my reason).

The Spirit of 59

I’m definitely a Rocker and not a Mod. How about you?

Rockers v. Mods

Wednesday, October 19th, 2005

If I were going for a certain look while riding, which I’m not, this would do just fine. Bonus points for the scarves.

Rockers were almost entirely defined in opposition to their famous antitheses of the same time, the Italian scooter riding Mods, or Modernists.

Joni Mitchell: Lady of the Canyon

Monday, October 17th, 2005

Guardian Unlimited: "When Joni Mitchell arrived in Los Angeles from Canada in 1968, she landed in exactly the right place at exactly the right time. In an exclusive extract from his new book, Barney Hoskyns tells how the hipsters who all hung out together in Laurel Canyon fell both for Mitchell and her music - and turned Sixties rock on its head . . . "
