Photo Tourism

Interesting idea in theory.

Microsoft Research: Photo Tourism is a system for browsing large collections of photographs in 3D. Our approach takes as input large collections of images from either personal photo collections or Internet photo sharing sites, and automatically computes each photo’s viewpoint and a sparse 3D model of the scene.

NeoOffice Aqua

Neooffice Aqua is here and is worth the $10 early access subscription. Neooffice has really grown into something great the past year or so, and this is a big step toward wider acceptance in the Mac community. I’ve been using it for more than a year without a hitch. It was even able to open some unusual foreign language projects that noone else was able to edit. Like macs, it “just works.”

Attaboy, textdrive

Monday, August 21st, 2006

I haven’t had a lot to say about my website hosting company, textdrive, and that’s a good thing. Today, however, the comments table of the ol’ blog went all whack and I was dreading reconstructing it from my (slightly) outdated mysql backup. A trouble ticket to the good folks at textdrive got an immediate response from a real human who fixed the table himself. So, today, textdrive gets a gold star.

All Star

Congratulations to Ashlin, who was selected as a National Adidas Junior Phenom All-Star here at the camp in San Diego. Ash had five blocks and four points in the All-Star game (high scorer on her team had seven, so points were fairly evenly distributed). Her team (All Star East) lost by three. Ash had a positive experience at this camp, which is a very no-nonsense, old-school basketball atmosphere. She also had a very good coach. Pictures will follow, as soon as I locate a card-reader.
