In praise of Craigslist

Wednesday, September 26th, 2007

Craigslist was lucky for me the last few months: I sold two bicycles; found a certified mechanic to replace the weak head gasket on the Nissan this summer (gambled that it wouldn’t need head work, and won); and this week found an excellent painter to paint the exterior of our home in exchange for said Nissan. I’m always amazed at the number of responses I get whenever I post to this great (and free!) service. link

I do miss the truck, though.

Tomato Router DNS Facebook Login Problem (any more keywords?)

Tuesday, September 25th, 2007

UPDATE: Well, that wasn’t the problem (but it was working briefly). The problem was with Akamai, apparently. The hostfile hack works in OSX.

This probably only affects, like, three other people in the known universe, but, if you are having trouble getting to a particular site and you are using Tomato firmware on your Linksys or Buffalo router, try disabling the setting that caches DNS data. Facebook changed some stuff a while back, and I had been unable to get to through the login prompt for days (even tho I could ping it).

HDN poll

Anthony has a poll about the current Hogs FB coach. Personally, I don’t think the Nuttster will ever coach again in D1.

Alien Planet

Thursday, September 20th, 2007

There’s not a lot on teevee that will hold my attention for two whole hours, but the new “Alien Planet” on Discovery (in HD!) is absolutely mesmerizing. I would totally buy this. link
