Curry & Cornbread

Saturday, December 22nd, 2007

At 9 p.m. on December 22, 2007, I, Jack Pate, invented cornbread and curry! Tom at work told me about World Spice Merchants in Seattle, and I ordered some smacktacular Cape Town Masala curry spice. I made some with chicken and vegetables tonite, but didn’t have anything else to go with it, so I made some cornbread. In a flash of hillbilly ingenuity, I broke up the cornbread and dished some of my curry on top. WHOOO-BOY! I’d take a picture, but it ain’t pretty.

Moon circleThis wonderful moon ring was a nice contrast to the fiery tragedy of last week.

Burned

Saturday, December 15th, 2007

IMG_0165My uncle called me this morning with the news that our family lakehouse in Hot Springs had burned to the ground last nite. Lightning, combined with dry conditions (even though it was raining) was the apparent culprit.

The structure was old, but it contained the collective history of four generations. Pictures, furniture, games, funny hats, the whole shebang. Here’s a link to a photoset of a recent (November 2006) visit. The odd thing is, I told Colli at the time that I wanted to document a lot of the eccentricities of this place “in case it ever burns down.”

What, me worry?

Bushmills Sometimes I read about all the things that are supposed to be wrong with America, and then, like today, I go to a store where I can get a quart of Bushmill’s and an eye exam – all within 15 minutes. Great price on the Bushmill’s, too.

Why you should drink Irish whiskey.
